Craft And Folk Art Museum

The Craft and Folk Art Museum (CAFAM) champions cultural understanding by encouraging curiosity about our diverse world through the universal lens of art.

CAFAM's view of FOLK ART:
"We view the term “folk art” in a contemporary and dynamic light that is not limited to one frame. We consider all art made in a cultural and social context as part of our domain. Our stance encompasses a wide breadth of art and ideas ranging from Polynesian body tattoos that mark a tribe, whether traditional or urban, to the modern interpretation of ancient cave paintings from India that offer political commentary about a post-9/11 world, to a photojournalist’s observations of the complexity of contemporary Iranian society.
Folk art offers cultural insights not readily seen in other art forms since it is created with an awareness of, and a connection to tradition and community.  The process of creating folk art is a varied and dynamic one that builds on traditional methods or ideas, but also includes individual creativity and contemporary influences. This artistic merger of social order and individual creativity offers incredible insight into global and local values and beliefs.  Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of folk art is how sublimely it reveals human similarities amongst diverse cultures." Mustache Mondays tonight at La Cita w/ BRENMAR

EVERY Monday 9pm - 2am at
La Cita
336 S. Hill St.
Los Angeles 90013

Mustache Mondays has established itself as a renegade and successful weekly dance party, continuing in the legacy of nightlife that can only take place in Downtown Los Angeles (La Cita). The Mustache Mondays name has become synonymous with a weekly underground dance club that features unbridled performances from the fringe and an environment that warmly embraces its devoted polysexual fan base.

While most parties burn out (or creatively sell out) within their first year, Mustache Mondays is proud and excited to embark on its fourth strong season with no plans of stopping the music. Packing a full house every single Monday night!

MUSTACHE MONDAYS features the realest on the wheels, residents JOSH PEACE and TOTAL FREEDOM

Along with your favorite residents, Josh Peace and Total Freedom, Brenmar promises to tear down La Cita's loyal masses with one of the most insane Mustache Mondays of a year packed with more than a few insane Mondays.

Outdoor Ice-skating in Los Angeles

The season known as "winter" does exist in several square-thousand-pockets in Los Angeles.  You can skate under the swaying palms of LA or the slightly-less-oppressive winter Valley sun.  Check out these skating options for LA County (see map at end).

Downtown On Ice

LA's original outdoor ice rink is back with 4500 square feet of fun and frolic.  Skate under the palm trees and skyscrapers that surround Pershing Square.  Skating sessions are $6/hour + $2 for skate rental.  Sessions last 1 hour followed by 30 minutes for resurfacing.  The Pershing Square rink is open 18 Nov 2010 through 17 January 2011. Hours: Mon - Thu, noon-10pm; Fri & Sat, 10am - 10pm.

LA Kings Holiday Ice

The second annual LA Kings Holiday Ice returns to LA Live under Los Angeles' official artificial Christmas tree!  The rink at Nokia Plaza is nearly twice as big as last year at 5600 square feet.  Skate with Santa nightly from 7-8pm through 22 December.  Admission is $12-unlimited including skate rental.  Rink is open from 27 Nov 2010 through 1 Jan 2011.  Hours: Weekdays, 5 - 11pm; weekends, noon - 11pm through 17 Dec; 18 Dec - 1 Jan, noon - 11pm.

CHILL At The W

Ice skating at The W Hotel Los Angeles, Westwood.  Okay, chill might be a slight misnomer--the rink is made of "hybrid" ice, but the way the weather's been lately, you can still chill literally or figuratively.  The W in Westwood has converted their pool to a rink.  The pool deck-cum-rink deck features a bar sponsored by WET and appetizers. Poolside cabanas available.  Cost is $10/hour including skate rental.  Rink open 19 Nov 2010 through 2 Jan 2011.

Downtown Santa Monica again features two rinks: 400 square feet for kids 8 and under and 8000 square feet for everyone.  This year will feature floral art work beneath the ice from Ed Massey, co-founder of the public arts project, Portraits of Hope, that covered LA County's lifeguard towers this summer.  Admission is $10 including skate rental.  Season passes and lessons available.  Open 5 Nov 2010 through 15 Feb 2011.  Hours: Mon - Thu, noon - 10pm; Fri, noon - midnight; Sat, 10am - midnight; Sun, 10am - 10pm.

Prices range from $11 to $15 including skate rental.  Open 5 Nov 2010 through 6 Feb 2011.  Hours: Sun - Thu 10am - 10pm; Fri & Sat, 10am - 11pm.

Too many people still die every day from illnesses that can often be prevented, treated, and/or cured. Health is intricately related to poverty in a painful cycle — poor housing and sanitation, malnutrition...and lack of access to medicine lead to poor health. Someone who is ill is unable to attend school, provide for their family, and be an active member of their community.
RESULTS’ global health work focuses on three main issues: tuberculosis, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and child survival.  Join us to help to help prevent unnecessary deaths from diseases of poverty.

Tarzana Treatment Centers in Los Angeles will participate in the 2010 World AIDS Day by holding a celebration at our central location in Tarzana, as we have for many years.  The theme for 2010 is Universal Access and Human Rights.  Much of the world’s HIV infected population lacks treatment because they don’t have access to it or suffer human rights violations.  Increased public awareness of these issues helps to battle the global HIV and AIDS epidemic, so we encourage all to attend.
