5th Annual Great LA Walk! Explore your city from the other side of the wheel.

Great LA Walk 2010
20th November 10am - finish
Pershing Square to Santa Monica
via Wilshire Boulevard

Old Bullock's Wilshire.
Each year hundreds of Angelenos forgo their automobiles, slip on their walking shoes and get up close & personal with the streets, neighborhoods and architecture of their city.  Previous years have seen Angelenos walk the length of Santa Monica, Pico and Adams/Washington Boulevards from downtown to the ocean.  Last year saw some great historic homes of the West Adams District.  This year, the Walk returns to it's origin: Wilshire Boulevard--the backbone of Los Angeles.

From Downtown, we'll traverse 15.6 miles of LA neighborhoods including, the Financial District, Westlake, Koreatown, Miracle Mile/MidWilshire, Hancock Park, Beverly Hills, Westwood, West LA and Santa Monica.  Come travel through MacArthur Park, passed the former site of the grand Ambassador Hotel (now a half-billion dollar LAUSD school), walk by such historic buildings as the Art Deco Bullock's Wilshire (now Southwestern Law School) and  Wiltern Center and the Streamline Moderne May Co (now LACMA West). See mastodons struggling in the La Brea Tar Pits, look up Rodeo Drive and down to the Beverly Hilton.  Take it slow in the shadows of the residential towers of the Wilshire Corridor near Westwood and move down though The Wave--Santa Monica's official gate-- before hitting Palisades Park overlooking PCH and the Santa Monica Pier.  If you liked cicLAvia earlier this year, this is bound to be right up your alley--er, boulevard!

Wiltern Center at Wilshire and Western.
Walkers will meet at Pershing Square at 10am and will receive a  copy of the Los Angeles Conservancy's booklet on the neighborhood and structures along Wilshire Boulevard.  The Walk is free.  You will need to provide for your own meals and beverages.  Food trucks will set up around Museum Row if you are so inclined.  Walkers can go at their own pace and complete as much of the route as they want.  For those the make it to the end, there will be a post-Walk meet-up at Border Grill (1445 4th St., Santa Monica 90401).

Remember this is not a circular route: You will end up 15.6 miles from where you started so make arrangements for return transportation.  Below are links to Metro routes to Pershing Square, from Santa Monica and during the route, should you end before Santa Monica.

Parking lot below Pershing Square closes at 5:30 PM on Saturdays.  If you make it to the end of the route, you'll probably just have arrived in Santa Monica about that time, so park elsewhere.

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

PERSHING SQUARE:
There are over 30 buses that go past Pershing Square or within one block of it on Saturdays. In addition, both the RED Line and PURPLE Line suwbays serve Pershing Square Station.  Check the Metro System Map then get your Route Timetable to schedule your trip.

Even easier: use the Metro Trip Planner by entering your starting and ending addresses and get lists of routes and times automatically.
