Clyde Porter Festival Del Artista

This free Family Festival includes Fine Art Exhibits, Childrens Activities, Live Entertainment, Arts & Crafts, Arts and Culture Exhibitors.

The 6th Annual Clyde Porter Arts Day–Festival Del Artista will be held on Saturday 15 October inside the Clyde Porter West Valley Playhouse and along Owensmouth Avenue between the playhouse and Wyandotte Avenue in Canoga Park.

The Clyde Porter Arts Day was created to continue the legacy of this visionary who wanted to bring the arts and culture to the San Fernando Valley. Healthy twenty-first century communities will be those that develop a sense of common purpose. Community-building goals can be achieved through civic festivals. The Clyde Porter Arts Day is a good example of a community-building event with an emphasis in promoting the arts and culture along the Sherman Way corridor - and adjacent areas - in the business district of Old Town Canoga Park. Inside the theatre's foyer, fine artists will exhibit their works of art providing the ambiance of a fine arts gallery. Inside the theater you will find classic and international dance performances.

CicLAvia

The CicLAvia board is busy working with Mayor Villaraigosa, the City of Los Angeles, and other allies, supporters, partners, and YOU to make CicLAvia bigger and better in 2011.

UPCOMING CICLAVIA EVENTS - APRIL 10th AND MORE!
Get your skates tuned! Your shoes laced! Your chains greased! Sunday April 10th 2011 will be the next CicLAvia! It'll be nearly the same route as last October's wildly successful 7.5-mile route from Boyle Heights to East Hollywood. We're also scheduling similar events in July and in October. For later 2011 events, CicLAvia plans to continue the central route, and make it even longer by adding spurs into Chinatown, South L.A. and/or Boyle Heights/East L.A.
SUPPORT CICLAVIA!
Please contribute to CicLAvia via our Kickstarter Campaign. For just $11, you'll receive a custom spoke card, designed by acclaimed CicLAvia grafix genius Colleen Corcoran! Donations that come in through Kickstarter will go toward things like publicity, signage, printing, outreach, permitting, design, staffing, freeway off-ramp closures, porta-potties, and mucho mas!
CicLAvia is also raising monies though grants from foundations and funding from event sponsors. If you or your business would like to sponsor CicLAvia in 2011, please check out the CicLAvia Sponsorship details online.
HELP EXPAND CICLAVIA!
In Colombia, Bogotá hosts 80 miles worth of ciclovías every Sunday! CicLAvia is looking to expand and to reach even more Los Angeles neighborhoods. CicLAvia has begun to work with folks in South L.A., and soon Chinatown and Boyle Heights, to see how and where to add new spurs from the central route. CicLAvia has also been talking with lots of folks interested in CicLAvia in the Long Beach/Harbor area, Culver City, West L.A., Santa Monica, Pasadena, the San Fernando Valley, and other locations. We'll be forming volunteer host committees for these areas. If you're interested in getting involved in helping expand CicLAvia to your neighborhood, email us at CicLAviala@gmail.com.

Outdoor Ice-skating in Los Angeles

The season known as "winter" does exist in several square-thousand-pockets in Los Angeles.  You can skate under the swaying palms of LA or the slightly-less-oppressive winter Valley sun.  Check out these skating options for LA County (see map at end).

Downtown On Ice

LA's original outdoor ice rink is back with 4500 square feet of fun and frolic.  Skate under the palm trees and skyscrapers that surround Pershing Square.  Skating sessions are $6/hour + $2 for skate rental.  Sessions last 1 hour followed by 30 minutes for resurfacing.  The Pershing Square rink is open 18 Nov 2010 through 17 January 2011. Hours: Mon - Thu, noon-10pm; Fri & Sat, 10am - 10pm.

LA Kings Holiday Ice

The second annual LA Kings Holiday Ice returns to LA Live under Los Angeles' official artificial Christmas tree!  The rink at Nokia Plaza is nearly twice as big as last year at 5600 square feet.  Skate with Santa nightly from 7-8pm through 22 December.  Admission is $12-unlimited including skate rental.  Rink is open from 27 Nov 2010 through 1 Jan 2011.  Hours: Weekdays, 5 - 11pm; weekends, noon - 11pm through 17 Dec; 18 Dec - 1 Jan, noon - 11pm.

CHILL At The W

Ice skating at The W Hotel Los Angeles, Westwood.  Okay, chill might be a slight misnomer--the rink is made of "hybrid" ice, but the way the weather's been lately, you can still chill literally or figuratively.  The W in Westwood has converted their pool to a rink.  The pool deck-cum-rink deck features a bar sponsored by WET and appetizers. Poolside cabanas available.  Cost is $10/hour including skate rental.  Rink open 19 Nov 2010 through 2 Jan 2011.

ICE in Santa Monica

Downtown Santa Monica again features two rinks: 400 square feet for kids 8 and under and 8000 square feet for everyone.  This year will feature floral art work beneath the ice from Ed Massey, co-founder of the public arts project, Portraits of Hope, that covered LA County's lifeguard towers this summer.  Admission is $10 including skate rental.  Season passes and lessons available.  Open 5 Nov 2010 through 15 Feb 2011.  Hours: Mon - Thu, noon - 10pm; Fri, noon - midnight; Sat, 10am - midnight; Sun, 10am - 10pm.

 ICE in Woodland Hills

That's right--ice CAN exist outside your freezer in the Valley!  Check out the SFV's only outdoor rink--7000 square feet of it--at the Westfield Woodland Hills. Prices range from $11 to $15 including skate rental.  Open 5 Nov 2010 through 6 Feb 2011.  Hours: Sun - Thu 10am - 10pm; Fri & Sat, 10am - 11pm.
