After! Art Walk in Venice

Venice Art Walk and Auctions By and For Venice Family Clinic -- The After! Art Walk -- Saturday, June 4A selection of art for saleVenice Art Walk & Auctions took place on the week-end of 20-22 May.  The annual event raises money for the non-profit Venice Family Clinic.  During the three-day event, Venice residents open their homes to art studio and architecture tours and an art auction is held featuring artists from the community.  After! Art Walk Is the follow up to the May event to further raise funds for the invaluable services the Venice Family Clinic provides to low income residents on the Westside of Los Angeles.

More than 100 works of art--paintings, sculptures, photographs, skate decks, surfboards, and limited-edition prints--for sale at opening bid prices!

Venice Family Clinic is the largest free clinic in the country. More than 24,400 men, women, children, teens, and seniors are served annually by nearly 2,100 individuals – including more than 500 physicians – who donate their time, valued at $2 million annually. Ninety-seven percent are low-income and nearly three-quarters are uninsured. 
Venice Family Clinic provides more than 106,000 primary care, specialty care, mental health, dental, and health education visits annually. All services – including diagnosis, treatment, medications, follow-up care, and laboratory tests – are provided free of charge. Particular emphasis is placed on the needs of women, children, the homeless, and those with chronic diseases.

Venice is Art—a magical place where, on one weekend a year, artists open their studios, architects open their homes, and art lovers gather at one of the area’s largest silent art auctions, all to raise funds to help Venice Family Clinic provide free, quality health care to people in need. That weekend has arrived! And it’s bigger than ever, with five great events…

Friday, May 20, 2011, 6 – 10 pm

Free and open to the public
An incredible new exhibition and silent auction of skate decks and surfboards reshaped and recreated by more than 60 local artists, musicians, and athletes—including Dogtown and Z-Boys alumni Stacy Peralta, Nathan Pratt and Allen Sarlo; pro skaters Lacey Baker and Daniel Espinoza; graffiti and street masters RISK, Smog City, Bleek, and Skegs; Napalm Records’ Brant Bjork; and tattoo artists Charly Reynoso, Big Boy, Justin Jackus, Alayna Magnan, Paul Deters, Tyoni Aragon, Jason Profant, and Ryan Murphy—at Track 16 at Bergamot Station.

Art & Architecture Tour: West L.A.—Flats North of Olympic to the Hills North of Sunset

Traveling north-south through the flatlands of West L.A. to the mountainsides of Brentwood on this premium, docent-led bus tour, participants will experience a microcosm of L.A. lifestyles from dense urban living to hillside aeries looking out over the city. Note: This docent-led bus tour includes a box lunch and a presentation by architect and author Cory Buckner about A. Quincy Jones and the Mutual Housing Association development in Crestwood Hills, the only successful large-scale cooperative housing development in California. Planned originally to provide 500 houses and community facilities on a hillside site at the edge of the Santa Monica Mountains, Crestwood Hills is one of the few fully realized modernist projects in the state.

Art & Architecture Tour: Appleton Way—One Amazing Block + Much More

Discover a hidden architectural enclave—Appleton Way in Venice—where several spectacular homes have sprouted in just the past five years. Four of these homes—designed by Brooks + Scarpa, du Architects, Santiago Ortiz, and homeowners Sylvia Aroth & Jeff Cook—will be on this self-guided tour, along with the Carson/Bettauer Residence on the next block, and gardens designed by Suzanne McKevitt and Z Freedman Landscape Design. An added bonus just a few blocks away is the Cor-Ten clad Walnut Residence designed by Modal Design around an 80-year-old umbrella pine.

The centerpiece of the Venice Art Walk & Auctions! More than 50 artists’ studios and special exhibits including 16 never before on the tour—such as those of Alex AndrĂ©, Laurie Cozen-Geller, Jamie Dean, Stephen Glassman, Amir Magal, John Mooney, Jules Muck, Judy Nimtz, Sarah Stockstill, Michael Weber, and Jennifer Wolf—give the public a glimpse of what happens behind the scenes.

 
Silent Art Auction

Take home a piece of Venice. Hundreds of pieces—from paintings and sculptures to ceramics and photography—by established and emerging artists could be yours. Just bid! Note: free preview on Saturday, May 21, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, at Westminster School.

Sunday’s self-guided architecture tour features houses within easy walking or bicycling distance of Art Walk artists’ studios, giving tour-goers the opportunity for a day filled with art and architecture by C/ARC, GRAYmatter architecture, Marmol Radziner, and Bradley Johnson & Elise Gispan. Two of the houses are on Venice’s storied canals, and the others are on streets that were also part of Abbot Kinney’s original “Venice of America”—now some of Venice’s choicest addresses.
