Proceeds support NextAid’s current projects in Africa including the construction an eco-friendly micro-enterprise facility for youth, the education of orphaned children, and critical maternal health programs for girls and women.
In 2009, nearly half a million babies were born HIV positive; 90 percent of those babies were in Africa.
With proper treatment, spreading HIV to an unborn baby is 99 percent preventable.

LAX - Airport to shine light on World AIDS day: The towering pylons looming over Los Angeles International Airport will be illuminated in red Wednesday night to commemorate World AIDS Day.
This year, organizers are hoping to bring attention to funding needed to eliminate mother-to-child transmissions of HIV through breast milk by 2015.
The first World AIDS Day was held on Dec. 1, 1988, as part of an effort to bring global awareness to the deadly virus.
An estimated 1 million people in the United States are living with HIV and AIDS, about a quarter of whom do not know they are infected, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

The Red Balloon Walk is an awareness campaign. Volunteers will fan out in small groups through Downtown Los Angeles distributing HIV/AIDS education material. Participation in the event is free. Carrying red balloons, the volunteers will create positive awareness of World AIDS Day and the importance of prevention, access, and treatment.

The commemoration will begin with “Portrayals of a Pandemic: Screening of HIV/AIDS Films,” in the Student Union Building on the Thousand Oaks campus. The movies focus on different aspects of the U.S. and global HIV/AIDS crisis.

Tarzana Treatment Centers in Los Angeles will participate in the 2010 World AIDS Day by holding a celebration at our central location in Tarzana, as we have for many years. The theme for 2010 is Universal Access and Human Rights. Much of the world’s HIV infected population lacks treatment because they don’t have access to it or suffer human rights violations. Increased public awareness of these issues helps to battle the global HIV and AIDS epidemic, so we encourage all to attend.
